It has now been one year from the time I was sworn in to be Tremonton’s mayor.    During that time, we hired a new police chief, leveraged our culinary water with the installation of two new secondary water services, started a farmers’ market, and so much more.

We have received or are working on the following grants 1)$407,000 grant to enhance downtown and give Midland Square more of a gathering place with an amphitheater, power pedestals for vendors, and restrooms. 2) we are working to receive a grant that will help us enhance our city’s culinary water springs by creating an aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) site to pump water from the springs during the offseason into an existing aquifer the city owns. Then retrieving that water during the high-demand season to increase our existing water resource.  We are exploring ways to enhance downtown with façade grants.  Indeed, much is happening in Tremonton.

For me, it has been a growing experience!

I have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to serve.   Tremonton is a family-oriented, diverse, and capable community with strong business and agricultural offerings. We cherish our history and are pursuing growth plans which welcome new residents and businesses without compromising what makes our city special.

No matter whether you are a long-time resident, or just moved in.  Whether you are a business owner on Main Street, commute to work, or work from home, we need to listen to each other and work together to build a unified vision of our future.  That way we will all play an important part in our city’s trajectory.  We are all better informed when we connect with each other.

Actions speak louder than words!

One resident commented:

I think [living in Tremonton] is about being able to walk to school with your kids.  It’s about your kids learning to ride their bikes in their neighborhood.  It’s about the neighbors learning your kids’ names.

Others remarked:

I love the community events, like the art festival or trick or treat on Mainstreet.  It brings people together and everyone in the community seems to enjoy it.

We are also a community with challenges.  Many of our residents worry about what Tremonton is becoming.  For example, many residents are concerned about growth and congestion.  They are concerned about public infrastructures like streets and water.

One resident commented:

Tremonton is growing too fast for what businesses are here.  We have taken the small-town feel out of living in Tremonton by building all these apartments and homes.

Another remarked:

It’s a great place to live but the growth needs to be slowed down at a more sustainable rate.

Others remarked:

-There are not enough options for shopping or entertainment.
-I wish there was another grocery store.
-There’s not much to do here.  Tremonton is growing but city policies are stuck in the past.
-“I really like Tremonton, but it’s starting to grow out of control and the city officials don’t listen to what the residents want.”

In general, Tremonton residents had many good things to say about our city.   Positive comments revolved around the city’s small-town feel and welcoming safe and neighborly community.

But our weaknesses include concern with the direction the city is heading.  Some residents are concerned with the City’s ability to communicate its goals and answer concerns about infrastructure
